1) What is Model United Nations (MUN)?
Model United Nations is a simulation of the world's largest international body, the United Nations. However, MUN does not stop as a mere simulation, but serves as an opportunity for teenagers to recognize the importance of imminent world issues and develop corresponding stances and solutions.
2) How does MUN work?
Model United Nations works with the cooperation of three main actors - the Delegates, the Chairs, and the Secretariat Members. The responsibilities and roles of each participating party is outlined in detail below.
Delegate: As a Delegate, you will be representing a UN member nation or other internationally working bodies such as UNOs and NGOs. The primary role of a delegate is to bring to the negotiation table an accurate representation of the member nation's stance on the given agendas. Delegates will also be required to write position papers and resolutions to debate on.
Chair: As a Chair, you will be responsible for facilitating the conference in each of the committees. The primary role of a Chair is to make sure that the debate is conducted according to the UN rules of procedures and to provide an environment suitable for fruitful debate. Chairs will be required to take training sessions prior to the conference.
Secretariat Member: As a Secretariat Member, you will be responsible for the entire conference, taking on the role as a central guider. Secretariat Members will be required to show the highest level of professionalism and responsibility since their conduct will be most crucial in coordinating the different parts of the conference into a tightly bonding one.
3) How does MUNOS Summit work?
Among MUN procedures, MUNOS Summit follows the rules of procedures of The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN). The THIMUN rules of procedure are listed on the Delegate Guidebook at our Downloads section.
4) How is Model United Nations of Seoul SUMMIT (MUNOS SUMMIT) different from other MUN conferences?
MUNOS Summit is differentiated from other MUN conferences in Korea as it is a strictly student-led conference with no binding affiliations. The MUNOS Summit Secretariat members are selected from more than 10 nationally and internationally renowned universities and the participating delegates from more than 20 different national and international universities.
5) How many committees are there at MUNOS SUMMIT?
MUNOS SUMMIT now in its fifth year has been constantly expanding in committee number and size. At MUNOS SUMMIT 2011, there will be 3 committees in total: General Assembly (GA), Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the Security Council (SC).
6) When and where will MUNOS SUMMIT 2010 be held?
